Livestock Inland Single Transit Insurance - Frequently Asked Questions

It’s cover for physical injury or death to livestock belonging to You or for which You have assumed responsibility during a single inland transit. It can be transported by sea, road, rail, air and/or Your own vehicle, inland within Australia.
We do not cover any import and/or export.
Sum Insured is as shown in the Policy Schedule, limited as follows:
•$3,000 any one Animal;
•Except Studstock which is limited to $5,000 any one Animal

Shipping & Delivery Insurance Livestock is intended for
- Owners of livestock, or
- Senders/sellers, or
- Receivers/buyers;
who have an insurable interest in on those items whilst being transported within Australia.

We do not cover / insure:
- Breeding, stud stock or prized animals (over $5,000 per animal)
- Bloodstock (thoroughbred and standard bred horses used for racing, competition and/or breeding)
- Birds
- Exotic animals
- Domestic pets
- Any other described as excluded goods on Your Policy Schedule

Some of the circumstances We will not pay for include:
- Failure to pass tests or examinations or inoculation and its after effects
- Slaughter by or at the direction of government or other authorities on account of infectious
- Diseases
- Death or physical injury to a Bloodstock animal
- Loss of market, consequential loss, loss of foetus or loss of use of any description
- Any shortage or disappearance disclosed solely on periodic stocktake

The protection provided for Your livestock includes
Temporary resting of livestock during transit
- Where required to comply with Government Animal welfare or Livestock management regulations, the Insured Transit shall include a period of up to 7 days break in the ordinary course of transit to allow discharge of Livestock for the purpose of resting or spelling
- Death, physical injury, or slaughter for humane reasons during the insured transit
- Theft
- Death, physical injury or slaughter caused by strikers and the willful act of a third party (without Your knowledge), during Insured Transit
Also, these automatic benefit extensions following physical injury to livestock
- Agisting livestock
- Mustering escaped livestock
- Clean-up costs of livestock at any accident site

Be careful not to assume your livestock are automatically covered during transit.
Senders / sellers / suppliers of goods aren’t necessarily obligated to cover livestock on a delivery. They may leave it to the receiver / buyer of goods to work it out.
Equally, not all transporters cover the goods they carry. Some may even have trading terms which specifically leave the risk all on you.

The Insured Transit commences when the Livestock enters the Conveyance or its loading ramp for transport and continues
during the ordinary course of transit.

The Insured Transit Terminates when the Livestock is discharged from the Conveyance or its loading ramp at the destination.

Sum Insured is as shown in the Policy Schedule, limited as follows:
- $3,000 any one Animal;
- Except Studstock which is limited to $5,000 any one Animal
$150,000 AUD is the total maximum value insurable under this policy. This includes all charges like GST, duties, freight costs – subject to the application of any excess.
Please note:
- If the livestock is not commercially purchased/sold within the last 90 days, specify the cost of replacement with similar livestock of the same age and condition or as near as possible to that age and condition
- Round up declared value to the nearest dollar
Value declared is referred to as ‘sum insured’ in your policy documents
Special conditions apply to different types of goods. Please refer to the ‘HOW MUCH WE WILL PAY’ section of the PDS.

We provide cover Australia wide only (including Tasmania & Australian external territories, but excluding Antarctic territories).
We do not cover any import and/or export.
If you need cover for import/export, longer journeys or even an annual policy, more appropriate covers may be available from Marine Protects’ other policies.

A cooling off period applies. You have 21 days to consider this policy to be sure you have the cover you require.
There are terms and conditions. If the transit has commenced, the policy cannot be cancelled.

An excess may apply and will be shown on your policy schedule.
When you make a claim under this policy, you may be asked to pay an excess. This is the amount you contribute towards the cost of your claim.

The claim must be made by the policy holder, that is, the person who has purchased the insurance policy.

Where is a claim is payable, we will only pay the policy holder.
An excess may apply and will be deducted from any payments made.

Should you have a claim, subject to the Sum Insured, we will pay the lesser of the:
- The net invoice value covering the Livestock whilst in transit (including freight if separately invoiced to the receiver), or
- If there is no invoice value, the cost of replacing the Livestock, with similar livestock of the same age and condition or as near as possible to that age and condition

By providing the documentation listed below, but not limited to, you will avoid any unnecessary delays to your claim:
- Proof of purchase invoice and/or receipt of purchase
- Copy of the consignment note / transport document and invoice/s
- Communication emails/letters/etc
- Photos

We encourage you to lodge your claim with us as soon as possible and we endeavour to investigate all claims efficiently and effectively. Because circumstances vary, it may take some time to reach a resolution, but we will keep you informed regarding the progress of your claim..

As soon as possible after the death or physical injury of Livestock which may give rise to a claim against Us, some of Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
- Providing details & supporting documentation
- Taking reasonable steps to minimise loss, avoid / minimise any further death or injury to the livestock
