Career journey: It took me longer than I first expected to get started in my career. My time at university included getting married and the arrival of my first child, but after a lot of hard work I finished with a Bachelor of Business (Accounting). After graduating I moved to Brisbane and accepted a graduate accountant role with Stratco. That lasted three weeks before I realised accounting was not for me! I started temping to decide what I wanted to do and my first placement lead to 10 years of employment where I gained well-rounded learnings in technical writing, training, SQL system administration, coding, and most importantly how to run projects. I joined NTI over 15 years ago as a Project Administrator, and my role as well as the company have grown significantly since then. After all these years my role at NTI is still such an exciting job where no two days are the same. I love what I do as I get to help so many people across the business and facilitate successful projects. What could be better?!
Advice for your 20 year old self: You've got this! Life will not turn out how you planned or expected, but even better than you hope and enjoy every moment of it. Trust your instincts and grab all opportunities!

Career journey: I commenced my career specialising in marine insurance in 1978. Over the years I've been able to obtain extensive experience in all areas of marine insurance encompassing Hull, Cargo, Carriers, and Liability, and held various senior positions with Club Marine, MMI/Allianz, Lumley, Associated Marine, and CGU. I've been able to work in the marine insurance industry in New Zealand, the USA, and Australia, before joining CGU in 2012 as their Queensland Marine Underwriting Manager. More recently with the new CGU/Vero joint venture I came on board as Marine Underwriting Manager at NTI, and now enjoy my position within the Queensland Commercial Team as State Development Specialist.
Advice for your 20 year old self: Never let an opportunity go by no matter how far it is outside your comfort zone

Brooke Caldwell
National Heavy Motor Product Manager - Fleet
Career journey: I started my career as a receptionist/brokers assistant back in 1996 in the Northern Territory. I've had a number of roles in underwriting and broking over the years but always found myself gravitating back to underwriting, particularly heavy motor/fleet underwriting as I find it the most enjoyable. In my 11 years at NTI I've worked as a Senior Fleet Underwriter and now NTI's National Product Manager for Heavy Motor/Fleet for the last three years. My time at NTI have been fantastic, challenging, and rewarding. I'm always learning something new which is what makes insurance one of those industries that people stay in.
Advice for your 20 year old self: Find the right company to work at who will lift you up and support you to achieve your career goals. Being a woman in heavy motor insurance will be challenging at times, but you will really enjoy it once you find the right company, anything will be possible.

Career journey: I started my career at 19 working at a brokerage which nurtured my career in insurance. I was attracted to NTI as they're a specialist insurer and decided to make the move as an underwriter in 2005. Later I used my knowledge to assist with testing NTI's insurance and claims systems, this is where I found my passion to be creative and problem solve. I am so lucky to work in an organisation which promotes career growth and creativity. Within the IT team I have developed from SME to tester to business analyst to working on projects and leading software development teams. I admire the incredible people that I now get to work with and learn from every day.
Advice for your 20 year old self: Always consider the values and perspective of everyone you interact with, it impacts our ability to succeed through relating well to others. Also, invest in bitcoin!

Gemma Lipovski
Insights & Analytics Manager
Career journey: I started my career almost 20 years ago in the mailroom of a large superannuation fund. After a couple of years I found my way into the data and reporting team, and I loved it immediately. I worked in a variety of data focused roles over the next several years - data quality analyst, reporting analyst, information management consultant, and then moved to management roles - leading the business intelligence team and then the insights and analytics team. After nearly 15 years with the same organisation I was ready for a change and wanted to challenge myself. I joined NTI in 2018 to manage the analytics and insights function, and it has been an incredibly exciting and rewarding journey to work with an organisation that so strongly values and empowers its staff.
Advice for your 20 year old self: Be proactive in the development of your career, don't just wait for opportunities to come to you. Find a mentor that inspires you and pushes you to be better.

Marketing Partnerships & Events Manager
Career journey: I began my career in Sydney while at university with Westpac as a Collections Officer working within their debt recoveries team. After graduating with an undergraduate marketing degree I started with construction equipment OEM, CNH Global. I gained valuable experience there and was lucky enough to travel to some of the industry's largest international trade shows. After finishing a Master of Business I moved to Brisbane and took on a role with Volvo Group, looking after marketing for Mack Trucks. This was a broad and incredibly rewarding role which allowed a high degree of engagement with customers and the transport industry. A few years of consulting work followed with a small crane business in far North Queensland while I started a family, and a move back to Brisbane in 2014 saw me come on board with NTI in a marketing and events capacity.
Advice for your 20 year old self: Back yourself and grab every opportunity presented to you - just say yes and figure out how you're actually going to do it later.
