NTI Furthers Commitment to Protecting Mental Health of Transport and Logistics Workers
As Australia’s leading transport and logistics specialist, NTI has extended its commitment to protecting the mental health of industry workers, by signing a National Communications Charter aimed at reducing stigma around mental health.
The Life in Mind Communications Charter has the goal of supporting suicide prevention by raising mental health awareness and promoting help-seeking behaviour.
NTI Chief Customer Officer Janelle Greene said they were proud to join the initiative.
“We know being a transport or logistics operator and/or business owner can be taxing both physically and mentally,” Ms Greene said.
“This Charter is about facilitating conversations in a way that encourages people to speak up when they are struggling, so they know they will be heard and understood.
“It’s about being respectful – using safe language and also realising each person’s experience is different. It also encourages the use of evidence-based messages, consistently, on a national level, to ensure mental health becomes a priority Australia-wide.”
“The statistics need to change. We all need to unite and communicate about mental health in a way that better supports those doing it tough. I encourage other industry leaders and businesses to take this step in supporting and protecting their communities,” Ms Greene said.
Ms Greene said the safety and wellbeing of transport and logistics workers has always been a priority at NTI.
In 2020, NTI committed to a multi-year partnership as the top-tier Foundation Sponsor of Healthy Heads in Trucks and Sheds, a not-for-profit initiative charged with creating a single national mental health plan for industry.
“Our partnership with Healthy Heads in Trucks and Sheds and our signing of the Charter are tangible ways we are helping shape the transport and logistics industry to be safer and more sustainable,” she said.
“Everyone has a part to play in destigmatising mental health and we look forward to supporting such an important initiative.”
